Tucson, Ariz. – The University of Arizona track and field program will compete in the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, Calif. from March 22nd to the 23rd. The two-day event will begin on Friday at 8 a.m. MST with the hammer throw and running events for the Cats will begin at 10:55 a.m.
 
"We are looking forward to a great team bonding experience with the team," said head track and field coach Fred Harvey. "We are taking 72 people total to San Diego. This is going to be a great experience for a lot of athletes who don't get to travel a lot to be able to get some travel experience and be able to spend time away from the campus with their teammates. All in all, as far as the competition is concerned I believe it will be the same as last year where we had a number of great marks. The most important thing for me is to have that group together and be able to travel and experience a road trip together."

Last Time Out: The Cats competed in the Willie Williams Classic. Zakee Washington posted a PR in the 400-meter dash and set the No. 10 mark in the Arizona record book with a time of 46.36.
 
Rewriting History
Junior Zakee Washington clocked a time of 46.36 to set a new PR and the No. 10 400-meter dash mark in the Arizona record book. Washington's efforts in the race earned him a first-place finish and Pac-12 Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors. He is currently ranked No. 1 in the NCAA and Pac-12 Conference.
 
Last Time in San Diego
Sophomore Umajesty Williams set the Arizona 400-meter dash freshman record with a time of 46.14 in the 2018 Aztec Invitational. The time is good for his collegiate PR and the No. 6 overall 400-meter dash mark in the Arizona record book.
 
Hammer Time
Grayson Fleming opened the 2019 outdoor season with a toss of 64.71m (212-4) in the hammer throw. The redshirt senior took the top spot in the hammer throw contest at the Willie Williams Classic and holds the No. 4 mark in the NCAA.
 
Jumpin' Cats
Karla Teran and Justice Summerset opened their outdoor season with top-10 NCAA marks at the Willie Williams Classic. Teran cleared 1.77m (5-9.75) to finish second overall and ranks third on the NCAA list. Summerset ranks second on the NCAA list with a clearance of 2.17m (7-1.5) to finish first at the Willie Williams Classic.

The men opened the 2018 outdoor track and field season ranked 15th in the NCAA. The Cats return four All-Americans to the roster, highlighted by three-time First Team All-American sophomore Jordan Geist.
