TUCSON, Ariz. – In Arizona's first postseason game in eight years,
Cate Reese scored 20 points and 10 rebounds and led the Arizona Wildcats (19-13) to their first postseason win in 14 years by defeating Idaho State (20-11) 66-56 in McKale Center on Thursday night.
Reese recorded her Pac-12 freshman best seventh double-double of the season. She scored her 20 points on 6-10 shooting and was 8-8 from the charity stripe.
Aari McDonald scored in double-figures for the 32nd time this season as she scored 15 points to go along with five rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Destiny Graham also added in 10 points, all coming from the free throw line as she shot 10-10.
The difference in the game was Arizona's ability to capitalize off Idaho State's turnovers. Arizona forced 20 Bengal turnovers and converted that into 24 points. While Arizona did turn the ball over 16 times, Idaho State only had seven points off turnovers.
Arizona finished the first quarter on a 9-0 run to take an 18-7 lead into the second quarter, where the Wildcats would extend their lead to 38-20 in the second. Reese was dominant in the first half, scoring 14 points and bringing down seven rebounds while shooting 5-6 from the field.
Idaho State made a push in the third quarter and outscored the Wildcats 21-13 to make it 51-41 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Wildcats were able to keep the Bengals at a distance and came away with the win.
Next up for Arizona will be Pacific in the second round on Sunday at 3 p.m. MST.
