TUCSON, Ariz. -- Following her first career no-hitter, Arizona junior pitcher
Alyssa Denham has been named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Denham no-hit Oregon State to secure Arizona's sweep of Oregon State on Sunday in Corvallis.
Pitching on her 21st birthday, Denham was nearly perfect against the Beavers, never allowing a ball to leave the infield during seven masterful innings. She struck out eight, got 10 groundouts, two infield popups and one caught stealing for the 21 outs in Arizona's 4-0 victory over the Beavers to complete UA's second straight Pac-12 sweep to open league play.
Denham's no-hitter was the first of her career and the 92nd in Arizona history. It was the first since
Taylor McQuillin no-hit New Mexico last season on Feb. 11 in five innings and the first seven-inning no-hitter since
Danielle O'Toole's no-hitter against Washington on March 24, 2017.
Denham improved to 7-2 on the season with the victory and lowered her ERA to 2.35 on the season. Denham has struck out 55 in 47.2 innings while holding opponents to a .185 batting average.
It is the first ever weekly conference nod for Denham and the second of the season for the Wildcats after
Taylor McQuillin was named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week in week 4. This marks the 170th all-time weekly award in Arizona history.
Denham and the Cats are back in action this Friday-Sunday when they welcome Arizona State to Hillenbrand Stadium for a three-game series.Â
