Tucson, Ariz. – Three distance Cats;
Jennie Baragar-Petrash,
Bailey Roth and
Carlos Villarreal will travel to Palo Alto, Calif. to compete in the Stanford Invitational. Competition is set to begin on Friday, March 29th at 11 a.m. MST with the 5K.
"The Stanford Invite this weekend is one of the premier distance carnivals," said head track and field coach
Fred Harvey. "It is an overall competition but it is really where a lot of schools go to take their distance runners to try to get that first round qualification out of the way so they can get into training mode. I feel really excited about what our group of athletes is going to do out there. The most intriguing for me is to see what Carlos can do in the 5K on the track. He had a great cross-country season and a stellar indoor season. Jennie is in prime position; she has to be more patient in what she is doing and definitely has a great belief in herself. With Bailey, he is doing a really good job of being patient with himself and expectations of what he should be. He's starting to make those strides forward, I thought he had a really good meet in San Diego to set him up for a really good run at Stanford. What you are going to see from him is a really good run but not what he will be come Pac-12 Championships and the first round of the NCAAs."

Karolina Pahlitzsch set a PR in the 400-meter dash in 53.83 to set the No. 12 mark in the NCAA and
Kayla Young set the No. 7 mark on the NCAA list in the 5K with a time of 16:58.28.
First Day Out: Carlos Villarreal will make his 2019 outdoor debut in Palo Alto. The First Team All-American is slated to compete in his second 5K of his career. Last year, he opened the outdoor season in the same race and posted a time of 14:23.87.
First Crack: Jennie Baragar-Petrash will open run her first 5K on the track at the Stanford Invitational. This year, she holds the top Arizona marks in the 800-meter and 1500-meter runs. She clocked a time of 4:30.82 at the Aztec Invitational to set the No. 10 mark on the NCAA list.
Puddle Jumping: Bailey Roth will compete his second 3K steeplechase of the year at Stanford. The redshirt senior holds a season-best mark of 9:09.46, ranking him No. 14 on the NCAA list and the top mark on the Pac-12 Conference list.
