TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona Wildcats (17-16, 5-9) dropped game two of a three-game series on a final score of 7-3 to the California Golden Bears (19-11, 7-4) on Saturday night at Hi Corbett Field.
Â
Starting pitcher
Quinn Flanagan worked a solid outing for the Cats, going 5.1 innings and allowing three runs on six hits while striking out three.
Â
First baseman
Austin Wells extended his on-base streak to 27 games with a two-out double in the bottom of the first inning and eventually came around to score the game's first run. Catcher
Matthew Dyer (1x4), third baseman
Nick Quintana (1x4, 2B, RBI), shortstop
Cameron Cannon (1x3, R), and left fielder
Branden Boissiere (2x3, R) accounted for the remainder of the Wildcats hits.
Â
As was the case in Friday's series opener, the Cats put together late rallies that ultimately fell short. Arizona scored twice in the bottom of the eighth on sacrifice flies from
Justin Wylie and
Ryan Holgate to cut the deficit to two runs and got a leadoff single in the ninth from
Matthew Dyer, but couldn't fully capitalize.
Â
Arizona and California wrap up the series on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. MST. Ticket information can be found online at
