BERKELEY, Calif. -- Fifth-ranked Arizona fell for the first time in Pac-12 play, dropping a 1-0, nine-inning game to California on Saturday.

A pitcher's duel between Alyssa Denham and Cal's Kamalani Dung needed nine innings to settle, with the Golden Bears walking off with the game's first run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Arizona managed just two hits in the game, but stranded nine runners against Dung, who walked seven in the shutout.

Denham allowed one run on three hits in 8.2 brilliant innings, but suffered the hard-luck loss on a two-out RBI single by Karlee Sparacino to end the game in the ninth.

The loss ended Arizona's 21-game winning streak and was the first loss of conference play. It marked Arizona's first shutout loss of the year. The Cats fell to 39-8, 16-1 Pac-12. Cal improved to 26-24, 4-15 Pac-12.
