Arizona Selected for Second Straight NCAA Tournament Appearance

TUCSON, Ariz.- The Arizona men's golf program has been selected to its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The Wildcats found out Wednesday evening that they will be in the Louisville (Kent.) Regional as the No. 9 seed. This will mark the first time since 2013-2014 that the Cats have made regional appearances in back-to-back seasons. Arizona was selected to the Kissimmee (Fla.) Regional last year.

"The Louisville Regional sets up great for our team," coach Jim Anderson said. "The golf course offers similar challenges we have seen in recent weeks, and a chance to regroup at home, put finals behind us and focus solely on golf is exactly what our group needs. We feel great about our opportunity and being selected to NCAA's is something we expect, but also something we celebrate too."

The Wildcats concluded this season with four top-five finishes, with another tournament win at the Arizona Intercollegiate in January. This was the first season since 2011-12 season that the team has claimed a title in back-to-back seasons.

Leading the Cats this season was sophomore Trevor Werbylo. The Tucson local had a stellar season, leading the team in average, rounds under par and Top 20 finishes. Werbylo will enter the postseason with a scoring average of 70.86, the fourth lowest in Arizona men's golf history. Werbylo also lives in the history books as the lowest round in relation to par, after shooting a 10-under 62 at one of Arizona's home events, the N.I.T. His 36-hole score of 132 (-12) is the fifth lowest in school history.

The team will be playing from May 13th-15th with the Golf Channel broadcasting all regional action. Joining Arizona at the University of Louisville GC will be Oklahoma State, Auburn, North Florida, Louisville, Baylor, Arkansas State, Iowa State, West Virginia, Mississippi State, New Mexico, Jacksonville State, and Southern Illinois.
