TUCSON, Ariz. – Gitte Heynemans highlighted Arizona's five Pac-12 All-Academic selections as she was named to the First Team in her first year eligible as a student-athlete.
Sophia Thomas was named to the Second Team while
Marie Van Aelst,
Talya Zandberg and
Camila Wesbrooks were all named honorable mention.
Arizona's five honorees are the second-most in the conference, trailing just Stanford.
Heynemans, who majors in Political Science with a 4.0 GPA, is the first Wildcat to be named to the First Team since 2017. The sophomore finished the season with a 12-7 record in singles play during the spring season and amassed a team-high 21 singles victories all year.
Thomas earned her second All-Academic honor of her career amd was named to the Second Team for the first time in her career. Last year, the Geography major with a 3.60 GPA was honorable mention All-Academic. On the court, Thomas collected 11 singles wins and is currently ranked as the No. 70 doubles pairing alongside
Emma Wilson.
Van Aelst was named honorable mention All-Academic for the second-straight season as the junior sports a 3.47 GPA as a Communication major. She collected 12 singles wins this season and went 6-4 alongside doubles teammate Zandberg.
Wesbrooks, who is now a three-time honorable mention Pac-12 All-Academic honoree, is a double major in Journalism and Spanish while earning a 3.30 GPA. The senior finished the season with 20 singles wins, including eight at the No. 2 spot in the lineup.
Zandberg is also making her first appearance in her first year eligible. The sophomore has a 3.42 GPA while majoring in Information Science & eSociety. She finished the spring season with 12 singles wins, which is tied for the most on the team and collected a total of 20 singles wins this year.
