Werbylo Leads Cats on Second Day of Regional Play

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Arizona Wildcats continued postseason play Tuesday in the NCAA Louisville Regional at University of Louisville Golf Club. The Wildcats sit in seventh place after two rounds at 10-over par. The top five teams will advance to the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. Arizona is currently seven shots out of a qualifying spot.

For the second straight day, the Cats were paced by sophomore Trevor Werbylo. The local product carded a 2-under 69 and is 6-under for the tournament. He's tied with one other for second place, two shots behind Iowa State's Tripp Kinney.

Werbylo, who fired an opening round 67 on Monday, started his round on No. 10 and opened with four straight pars. After a bogey on 14, Werbylo picked up a birdie on No. 15 and shot an even-par 36 on the back nine. He then moved to the front nine and birdied holes two and six.

"Today was a day where my patience was definitely tested," Werbylo said. "I missed a lot of good birdie opportunities early, but I told myself to keep hitting good shots and putts and the birdies would eventually come. And on my second-nine, I was able to make some putts."

Werbylo will go after a regional championship in Wednesday's third and final round. He is set to tee off at 6:09 a.m., MST with West Virginia's Logan Perkins and Arkansas State's Julien Sale.

After Werbylo, Briggs Duce had the best day for the Wildcats, shooting a 2-over 73. He had two birdies on his day at two and 15. Brad Reeves shot a 3-over 74, but was 1-under over his final 13 holes after a rough start to the round. David Laskin and Ethan Marcus each shot a 4-over 75. Laskin's highlight came at No. 15 when he eagled the par five hole with a lengthy putt. He shot a 37 on his front nine and 38 on the back.

The Wildcats are seven strokes behind Louisville for the fifth and final qualifying spot. Both the Cardinals and Wildcats shot a 291 on Tuesday.

Marcus will be the first one off for the Wildcats on Wednesday. He will tee off at 5:25 a.m., MST.
