Quintana, Cannon Named Second-Team All-Americans by Collegiate Baseball

TUCSON, Ariz. – Two of the biggest contributors to this year's historically great Arizona Wildcats offense, third baseman Nick Quintana and second baseman Cameron Cannon, have been selected to Collegiate Baseball's All-American Second-Team squad.

This marks the first All-American honors of Cannon's career, and the second such recognition for Quintana, who was named a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American in 2017.

They are the first Arizona players to earn All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball since JJ Matijevic and Jared Oliva were placed on the publication's second-team in 2017. With today's announcement, the Wildcats have now had five players named Second-Team All-Americans by Collegiate Baseball in four years under the direction of head coach Jay Johnson.

Quintana, a junior from Las Vegas, finished the regular season leading the team and the Pac-12 with 77 RBI, a tally which also ranked fifth-most among all Division I players in the nation. The Cats everyday third baseman posted the best numbers of his career in 2019 – his .342 batting average, 65 runs scored, 76 hits, 18 doubles, 15 home runs, 77 RBI, 139 total bases, 45 walks, .626 slugging percentage, .462 on-base percentage, and .921 fielding percentage were all career-best marks.

His stats were some of the best in the west, ranking among the top 10 players in the Pac-12 in RBI (1st), runs scored (3rd), doubles (3rd), total bases (4th), walks (5th), hits (6th), home runs (T-6th), slugging percentage (7th), and on-base percentage (8th).

Cannon, a junior hailing from Glendale, led the Wildcats in 2019 with a .397 batting average that also ranked second in the Pac-12. The versatile middle infielder's 29 doubles were the most among all Division I players in the country through the end of the regular season and were one shy of the Wildcats single-season record. Cannon finished the year with 71 runs scored, 29 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 56 RBI, 35 walks, a .651 slugging percentage, and a .478 on-base percentage.

His 92 base hits and 29 doubles led the Pac-12 and he ranked among the top 10 players in the conference in batting average (2nd), runs scored (2nd), total bases (3rd), slugging percentage (5th), on-base percentage (5th), and RBI (T-7th).

The Wildcats finished the year with an overall record of 32-24 and a winning conference mark of 15-14 in Pac-12 play.
