Cats Camp 2020: Offense, Sun, and Netflix Recs

TUCSON, Ariz. — Day two of 2020 Fall Camp put the Wildcats under the Tucson sun on Saturday afternoon. For the second day in a row, Arizona players donned helmets and prepared for week one on the Dick Tomey Practice Fields.

Much like day one on Friday, day two's practice session was brief but productive.

"We can get out there, get our work done. The kids are really staying focused, so it's been fun" Arizona offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone said.

Offense was the name of the game on Saturday, as redshirt senior offensive lineman Josh McCauley and Mazzone sat down to speak with the media after practice. The two touched on quarterback Grant Gunnell, the impact of Donovan Laie's return to the team, the improvement of the offensive line unit, and even a few Netflix recommendations. Their full interview can be viewed in the featured video above.

Quote of the Day

Josh McCauley, on whether the Pac-12 Conference's initial cancelation of the fall football season made him consider transferring: "No. I love it here. Arizona gave me the opportunity to come play here, I love the guys that we have, I love our coaching staff. This is the place I wanted to be, and I wasn't going to pack up and leave. This is where I wanted to be, so this is where I'm going to play."

Number of the Day — 11,358

The Wildcats have rushed for 11,358 yards since 2016, the best mark in the Pac-12 Conference. Arizona has led the conference in rushing three times over that stretch, and are one of just three teams (also: Oregon, Utah) with a rushing total north of 10,000 in the last four years.

Featured Returner — RS Senior OL Josh McCauley

McCauley, a former walk-on who earned a scholarship just prior to the Wildcats 2019 Spring Game, has been a staple of the Arizona offensive line for two years. The redshirt senior from Mesa started all 12 games at center in 2018, guiding an offensive front that paved the way for a conference-best rushing unit that averaged 202.4 yards per game. McCauley's successes in 2018 were recognized on a national stage, as he was tabbed to the Rimington Award watch list prior to the Wildcats 2019 campaign. His presence in 10 games last year was again crucial to numerous Arizona rushing outbursts, including a 431-yard performance against Northern Arizona, a 314-yard ground assault against Texas Tech, and a 222-yard push at Stanford.

Featured Newcomer — Freshman OL Josh Baker

Baker joins the Wildcats from Eureka, Missouri for his freshman year in 2020. His prep career went beyond football, as he picked up three varsity letters off the gridiron: two years in baseball and one year in wrestling. Baker's dominance on the Eureka Senior High School offensive line earned him three All-Conference selections, two All-District nods, and one Second Team All-State selection. He chose to bring his talents to Tucson because, "It was the right fit for me, it felt like home."
