Cats Camp 2020: The Return of 11-on-11

TUCSON, Ariz. — After enjoying a day off on Sunday, Arizona Football returned to the field for day three of fall camp on Monday evening. It also marked the return to the field for head coach Kevin Sumlin, who evaluated the first two fall practices from home.
"It felt good to have coach Sumlin back out there," Arizona senior linebacker Anthony Pandy said after practice. "Seeing my head coach out there brings a lot of energy. He knows how to control the practice more in a sense when he's there ... it just feels good to have [him] out there."
The Wildcats took the field in shells (helmets and shoulder pads) on Monday, ramping up the preparation for Utah on Nov. 7. With the added protection comes additional energy and excitement, which was on display front and center when the offense and defense faced off in 11-on-11 scenarios for the first time this fall.
"Myself and the rest of [the coaching staff] will be more reliant on [Pandy] as we move forward because of what he's been through and the credibility he has as a talented, physical player," Rhoads said of Pandy's role in the defense this year.
"He's got a fast leg, and that's what you look for out of kickers is a fast leg," special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer said of Loop on signing day. "It's accurate as well. He's a very confident kid, he's a kid where you can put the ball anywhere on the field and he'll make it and he'll want to do it."

Pandy returns for his senior campaign in 2020 as one of the Wildcats veteran leaders on defense. Through three seasons and 34 games in Tucson, he has compiled 100 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, and one interception. Pandy Arizona career has been one of steady improvement, with his numbers leaping forward each year and culminating in a breakout 2019 campaign in which he logged 66 tackles, five TFL, and two sacks. His 66 tackles last year were tied for the third-most on the team, and stand as the most among all Wildcat returners. Featured Newcomer — Freshman K Tyler Loop
Loop, who joins the Wildcats from Lovejoy High School in Lucas, Texas, finished his prep career rated as the No. 8 kicker in the country by Kohl's Kicking. Loop competed in the December 2019 Texas Showcase and won both the field goal and kickoff portions of the event. In addition to his prep football prowess, Loop also earned varsity letters in soccer (two years) and track (one year). The former District MVP chose Arizona because, "I saw the best opportunity for myself to develop into the best kicker I can be and compete early in my career.""He's got a fast leg, and that's what you look for out of kickers is a fast leg," special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer said of Loop on signing day.
