TUCSON, Ariz. – The ninth installment of our #ThrowbackThursday series takes a look at the 1999-2000 team that went 15-3 in Pac-10 play to tie for first place before falling to Wisconsin in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. It marked the ninth conference championship under head coach
Lute Olson.

The Wildcats opened the season with four wins in the Preseason N.I.T., with wins over Kansas State and New Mexico State coming in Tucson and then triumphs over Notre Dame and Kentucky at Madison Square Garden. The 'Cats would go on to add non-conference wins over Michigan State, BYU, Texas and Nebraska to open up a 11-2 mark in non-conference play.

In the NCAA Tournament, Arizona opened with a commanding 71-47 win against Jackson State before dropping a 66-59 decision to Wisconsin in Salt Lake City.

- Arizona had a trio of players receive All-American honors, led by Jason Gardner's third team honor from Basketball Times. Loren Woods and Michael Wright were honorable mention nods from the Associated Press. Woods and Wright also grabbed USBWA All-District mentions.
- Gardner, Woods and Wright also racked up All Pac-10 accolades and were joined by Gilbert Arenas, who was an honorable mention all-league selection.
- Arenas, a freshman that season, earned Pac-10 All-Freshman team honors along with classmates Luke Walton and Jason Gardner.
- Josh Pastner earned Pac-10 All-Academic honors, the first Wildcat to do so since Kevin Flanagan in 1993-94.
- Arizona outscored its opponents by 9.3 points per game.
- As a team, UA shot 45.7 percent from the floor while opponents shot just 40.0 percent. The Wildcats also shot 73.0 percent as a team from the free throw line.
- UA blocked a total of 192 shots on the year, a school record that still stands, and nearly 100 more than their opponents (96).
- Loren Woods set the Arizona single-season record with 102 blocked shots, a record that still stands. He also set the UA single game record for blocked shots, turning away 14 shots against Oregon on Feb. 3, 2000. Woods also had another game where he blocked 10 shots against Washington State on Jan. 13, 2000.
- Arenas finished the year with 71 steals, a total that ranked fifth in school history at the time and currently ranks seventh.
- Gardner played 1,244 minutes on the year, just five minutes less than Sean Elliott did in 1987-88, the Arizona record holder at the time. Gardner's total ranks sixth in program history currently.
