"Being from Tucson, I feel it is extremely important to give back to my local community. Whether I'm volunteering at the Boys and Girls club where I get to be a role model for the younger generation or visiting an Alzheimer's care center where I get to help the elderly relive their younger years, being involved in the upbringing and well-being of my community is big to me."

Trevor Volpe
Sport: Men's Track & Field
Major: Finance, MIS
Hometown: Tucson, Ariz.
Â
Having grown up in Tucson,
Trevor Volpe's love for the city runs deep. After walking on at Arizona as a freshman, he has taken full advantage of the opportunity to compete in his hometown.Â
Â
"Being able to compete in the town that helped carve me into the man that I am today means a lot to me," said Volpe. "I think it gives me a different type of mentality when I am competing at Drachman Stadium. To me, protecting my house is a lot more serious when my own home is within walking distance. Having local support means a lot as well. To be able to see friends and family in the stands makes me push myself that much harder because I have to show out for them."
Â
In his three years as a Wildcat, Volpe has certainly made his mark on the Track & Field program. In both 2018 and 2019, Volpe competed in the first round of the NCAA Championships as part of a 4x100 meter relay team. In 2019, joined by
Zakee Washington,
Pjai Austin and
Umajesty Williams, the team placed fourth after clocking a time of 39.45, which stands as the ninth-best 4x100 relay time in school history.

Although competing at the NCAA Championships had been a long-time goal for Volpe, he was left feeling unsatisfied. He has his sights set even higher now.
Â
"Now my goal is to compete in the final round of the National championships and become an All-American."
Â
Throughout his time at Arizona, Volpe has always shown the determination and work ethic it takes to compete at the highest level.Â
Â
"To me, having the attitude that you will accomplish whatever it is that you want to get done is really important," said Volpe. "Nothing will stand in your way and you won't stop until you have reached your goal. I also think it's important to set a new and greater goal once you have met your current one. A determined individual won't be complacent once they've succeeded. They will only want to succeed at a greater level."
Â
This mindset is what allowed Volpe to continuously earn his spot on the team time and time again after walking on as a freshman and ultimately put his name in the school record books.
Â
However, it is not only his success on the track that gives Volpe the makings of a hometown hero, but his work in the community as well.
Â
"Being from Tucson, I feel it is extremely important to give back to my local community. Whether I'm volunteering at the Boys and Girls club where I get to be a role model for the younger generation or visiting an Alzheimer's care center where I get to help the elderly relive their younger years, being involved in the upbringing and well-being of my community is big to me."
Â
Volpe has continuously shown his love for Tucson through his constant support of the local community, although his impact doesn't end there. Even when competing out of state, he still finds ways to make a difference. When competing in Seattle for the MPSF Championships, Volpe organized an event where he and his teammates cooked breakfast for a local cancer care center.
Â
"I just believe in making an impact wherever I may find myself."
Â
It's safe to say that he has done just that. Along with balancing track & field, academics and community service, Volpe has also had the opportunity to pursue various professional endeavors. The summer of his sophomore year, he worked at Nike's World Headquarters in Oregon where he was an intern on the creative operations and brand design team. This summer he is working locally with Nova Home Loans.Â
Â
Whether it has been competing at the National Championships, facilitating and participating in community service work, maintaining a 4.00 GPA or taking on an internship, Volpe has most certainly made an impact wherever he finds himself.Â
