TUCSON, Arizona – The United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) announced on Tuesday that Arizona sophomore
Bennedict Mathurin has been selected as the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week for games ending Dec. 12.

Mathurin is the first Wildcat since Lauri Markkanen in 2016-17 to be named Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week. On Monday, Mathurin was named Pac-12 Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.

In wins against Wyoming and at Illinois last week, Mathurin averaged 27.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists. He shot 60.6% (20-33) from the floor overall and 50.0% (7-14) from the 3-point line.

Against Wyoming, who entered the game with the Wildcats ranked 11th in the NCAA's NET rankings, Mathurin had a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds to with five assists. Then at Illinois, the Montreal native exploded for 30 points, including a 5 of 8 effort from long distance and the clinching free throws in the closing seconds.
