TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona GymCats return to competition this Saturday, Feb. 20 to host the Washington GymDawgs at the McKale Center. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. MST with a free live stream available to view at ArizonaWildcats.com.

Arizona was idle last weekend after postponing their scheduled meet at Oregon State. In their most recent meet, the GymCats posted strong performances on beam and floor to register a 194.875 against No. 19 California.

Washington hits the road for the third time this year to visit Tucson. The GymDawgs posted their best score of the season, a 194.050, two weeks ago while hosting Oregon State.

BACK IN ACTION: The GymCats return to the McKale Center to host Washington this Saturday. It's the first meet action for Arizona since Feb. 6 — last weekend's scheduled meet at Oregon State was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols.

BEAM QUEENS: The GymCats have thrived on beam in 2021 and are currently ranked No. 9 in the nation in the event with an average score of 49.050. Of the 18 beam routines performed by the GymCats this season, 13 have registered scores of 9.8 or greater. Jessica Castles' 9.9 on beam at Utah in week one is Arizona's best mark on the event this year.

FLOOR IT: Arizona has also excelled on floor this year, with a current national ranking of 22 and an average score of 49.0. Ten of the GymCats 16 floor routines have scored at or above 9.8.

YOUTH MOVEMENT: The GymCats roster is loaded with young talent, with 15-of-19 players being freshmen or sophomores. Arizona has relied heavily on these underclassmen in 2021, using them for 57-of-72 routines thus far.

COACHING STAFF: The 2021 Wildcats are led by third-year head coach John Court, third-year assistant coach Taylor Spears, and first-year assistant coach Peter Jansson. Following decades of coaching across multiple levels of gymnastics, former Wildcats assistant coach of five years, David McCreary, announced his retirement in early January.

STATE 48: The Wildcats 2021 roster features six student-athletes from the state of Arizona, including three local products hailing from Tucson: freshman Madison Courney, junior MacKinzie Kane, and freshman Halli Mayberry. The six Arizonans represent nearly a third of the Wildcats roster.

G-PAC: In January, a group of Pac-12 gymnasts announced the formation of G-PAC, or "Gymnasts for Peace, Action, and Change." G-PAC facilitates an environment where diversity and inclusion is both welcomed and encouraged. The Wildcats are represented on the student-athlete driven organization by sophomore Sirena Linton.
