Oloyede Breaks Own Weight Throw School Record in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Arizona Track and Field closed out day two of the Championships at the Peak meet in Colorado Springs on Friday, tallying one school record, six PRs and a top-5 NCAA mark.

Highlights
Israel Oloyede had the mark of the day, launching a new PR of 23.18m (76-0.75) in the weight throw, breaking his own school record for the third time this season and giving him the second best mark in the country.

The entire men's 200m crew qualified in the preliminaries and will go on to race in the finals on Saturday at 3:15 p.m. MST. Tayvian Cunningham led the group, clocking 21.72 and finishing fourth. Trevor Volpe finished right behind him in fifth with a time of 21.74 followed by Trent Stimac in seventh with a PR of 21.84.

Stimac also qualified in the 60m prelims, clocking another PR of 6.84. Volpe also hit a new personal best in the 60m with a time of 6.86. Stimac will race in the finals on Saturday at 2:25 p.m. MST.

In the 400m prelims, Johnnie Blockburger placed second and qualified with a time of 47.85. Logan Hasher also ran a new PR. On the women's side, Shannon Meisberger ran a time of 54.91 in the 400m prelims, followed by Athena Montgomery who also clocked a PR. Meisberger's time qualified her for Saturday's finals at 2:00 p.m. MST. 

Closing out the weekend's combined events, Dominic Gehr finished fifth in the men's heptathlon with a final score of 5,055. 

The Wildcats will be back for day three tomorrow beginning at 10:00 a.m. MST with Jordan Geist in the men's shot put and Alexa Porpaczy, Diana Ramos and Lillian Lowe in the women's high jump. Geist currently holds the sixth best shot put mark in the country at 20.37m (66-10). Also competing for the Wildcats will be Samantha Noennig who holds the best women's shot put mark in the NCAA at 18.25m (59-10.5).
