TUCSON, Ariz. --Â Dominant pitching from starting pitcher
TJ Nichols and another offensive onslaught pushed the Arizona Wildcats (6-2) to a 14-2 victory over the Southeastern Louisiana Lions (3-4) in the series finale on Sunday morning. With the win, Arizona earned a sweep of the four-game series.
Nichols (2-0), in his second collegiate start, twirled a gem from beginning to end. The imposing right-hander worked 6.0 innings and allowed just one run on three hits while striking out six. He earned his second win in as many tries to stay undefeated on the year.
First baseman
Branden Boissiere continued his monster weekend to drive the offense's 14-run outburst; he finished the game 4-for-4 with four runs scored, one double, three RBI, and one walk.
The Wildcats scored at least two runs in every inning from the third through the seventh to pull away from the Lions. Combined, Arizona's lineup picked up 15 base hits and nine walks to keep pressure on the Southeastern Louisiana pitchers in nearly every frame.
Following the departure of Nichols to start the seventh, the Arizona bullpen took over and slammed the door shut on the Lions. Southpaw
Randy Abshier and right-hander George Arias combined to limit Southeastern Louisiana to just one run on three hits over the remainder.
Freshmen
Jacob Shaver and
Cameron LaLiberte both made their Arizona debuts on Sunday morning and each picked up base hits.Â
