SAN ANTONIO – On a windy, cold day on one of the PGA's toughest courses, the Arizona Wildcats battled the conditions to shoot 17-over par and finished in tenth after the first day of the Cabo Collegiate. Arizona closed the day out strong, positing 70% of their birdies on the back nine holes. Only one of the field's 16 teams shot under par as eight strokes separated the second and tenth place teams.

"We had a very tough opening nine holes today which slowed our chances of posting a great round," said head coach Jim Anderson. "We made a few mistakes as the wind, temperature and conditions on the course made birdies very difficult to come by. Our experience kicked in later in the round as we played a more respectable back nine. We maintained a chance to get in the mix with a good round tomorrow. I expect our team to play well in tomorrow's round now that we have our first round in the books and can recommit to good targets with free swings."

Senior Brad Reeves shot the lowest counted score for the Wildcats with a 2-over round of 73, sitting in a tie for 14^th with six other players. Reeves' low round saw him finish in a tie for third among all players in par-3 scoring at 1-under par. Finishing one stroke behind Reeves, Christian Banke posted Arizona's only other top-25 score on the first day at 3-over par.

The remainder of the Wildcats' lineup of David Laskin, Trevor Werbylo and Briggs Duce finished among the top 65 in the field.

Arizona will return to the course for the second round of the three-day event on Tuesday morning at TPC San Antonio.
