TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (34-13, 18-8) rode a complete-game effort from
Garrett Irvin to a 4-1 series-clinching victory over the Washington Huskies (17-26, 3-17) on Saturday night at Hi Corbett Field.
With the win, the Wildcats sealed a virtually perfect Pac-12 home slate, winning every single conference series in Tucson. They will play for their third straight Pac-12 home series sweep on Sunday morning.
Irvin worked his first career Division I complete game with 114 pitches, tying his season-high mark. He allowed just one run on eight hits while striking out six to go the distance. Irvin's effort was the first complete game for an Arizona pitcher since
Avery Weems worked 9.0 against Sam Houston State in May 2019.
The defense was spectacular behind Irvin, with numerous highlight-worthy plays contributed by
Tony Bullard, Donta' Williams,
Daniel Susac, and more punctuating an error-free effort.
Bullard also delivered the game-winning hit for the Wildcats in the bottom of the fourth inning, a two-run single to left center that put Arizona out in front 3-1.
