TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (30-11, 15-6) scored in all but two turns at bat and rolled to a 15-3 victory in the series finale against the Utah Utes (10-26, 5-16) to complete their second straight Pac-12 series sweep.
The Cats have now won nine in a row, six straight conference series, and nine of their last 10 Pac-12 sets.
Starting pitcher
Austin Smith, making his third straight game three start, worked 3.2 innings and allowed just two runs on four hits. He struck out a career-high seven and earned his second win of the year to move to 2-0.
The Wildcats bullpen — represented by
Quinn Flanagan,
Riley Cooper, and
Dawson Netz — combined to hold the Utes to just one run on three hits while fanning four.
Arizona's always-dangerous offense exploded for 15 runs on 16 hits, seven walks, and two hit batters. Of the Wildcats 16 hits, only two went for extra bases:
Jacob Berry's two-run triple in the bottom of the fourth and
Daniel Susac's solo home run in the fifth.
