Four Wildcats Set to Compete in Tokyo

TUCSON, Ariz. – Four Wildcats representing three different countries have been selected to compete at the Tokyo Olympic Games. Rising sophomore Giulia Koutsoyanopulos will compete with Italy, recent graduate Dejah Mulipola (2017-21) will compete with the United States, and Taylor McQuillin (2016-19) and Danielle O'Toole (2016-17) will compete with Mexico.

A trio of All-Americans, Mulipola, McQuillin, and O'Toole were set to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics until they were postponed due to the pandemic. The extra year gave Koutsoyanopulos the opportunity to prepare and train to make the Italian National Team.

Koutsoyanopulos, Mulipola, McQuillin, and O'Toole will bring Arizona's Olympian count to eight, joining Leah O'Brien (1996, 2000, 2004), Jennie Finch (2004, 2008), Lovie Jung (2004, 2008), and Head Coach Caitlin Lowe (2008). Former head coach Mike Candrea coached USA Softball to a gold medal in 2004 and a silver medal in 2008. Nicole Giordano (2004) and Alicia Hollowell (2008) were alternates on the USA Softball team. Overall, Arizona has 11 players and coaches with Olympic ties.

Softball is scheduled to play in the Olympics from July 21-July 27 at Fukushima Azuma Baseball Stadium and Yokohama Baseball Stadium.
