TUCSON, Ariz. – Tucson native Bailey Thompson has transferred to Arizona, the program announced on Tuesday. Thompson is transferring from Seattle University where she played from 2018-21 and will complete her final year of eligibility in a Wildcat uniform as a graduate student.
"We are thrilled to welcome Bailey to our program," said head coach
Caitlin Lowe. "She brings a ton of experience and a great passion for this game. She will add some depth behind the plate as well as a lot of pop offensively. We are so happy to have her join our wildcat family."
The starting catcher for Seattle during the 2021 season, Thompson will join Arizona's
Sharlize Palacios and
Izzy Pacho behind the plate. At Seattle, Thompson earned NFCA All-Pacific Region in 2021 and All-WAC honors from 2018-21. At the 2021 WAC tournament, Thompson was picked to the All-Tournament team. In addition to her honors on the field, Thompson was named Academic All-WAC all four years at Seattle.
During Thompson's career at Seattle, she split time between catcher and designated player. Thompson led the Redhawks in home runs for three seasons and had a .989 fielding percentage last season. In 2018, Thompson had an on-base percentage of .435, ranked ninth in Seattle history.
Thompson's best season at Seattle was during her senior year in 2021, leading the team with nine home runs, 14 doubles, and 46 RBI. Thompson hit .327 with a .426 on-base percentage and a .605 slugging percentage. During the 2021 season, Thompson scored 24 runs and had 13 multi-hit outings for the Redhawks, including a two-run homer during the WAC Tournament Championship game to help Seattle beat New Mexico State.
Thompson will join Arizona's 13 returning players and four incoming freshmen during
Caitlin Lowe's first year as head coach of the program.
