Arizona Splits Day One of Mary Nutter

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The No. 8 Wildcats (8-3) defeated California Baptist (5-6) but lost to Cal State Fullerton (8-3) on the first day of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs.
 
Game 1 – Arizona 6, California Baptist 2
The Cats won the first game, 6-2 to open the Mary Nutter. Carlie Scupin and Allie Skaggs homered in the win, giving them each five home runs on the season.
 
Arizona had six runs on nine hits. Scupin went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Izzy Pacho had two hits.
 
The Cats scored four runs in the second inning to take an early lead over the Lancers. Jasmine Perezchica hit an RBI single to left field and Sharlize Palacios followed with a two-RBI single through the middle. Scupin hit her fifth home run of the season in the third inning to put Arizona up 5-0.
 
California Baptist answered back with two runs in the fourth, but Skaggs led off the fifth inning with her fifth homer of the season to put Arizona up 6-2.
 
Devyn Netz (3-0) was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs on three hits from the Lancers.  
 
Game 2 – Cal State Fullerton 1, Arizona 0
Arizona fell to Cal State Fullerton in the second game of the day, 1-0.
 
It was a pitcher's duel for the first five innings before the Titans scored one run. The Wildcats had runners in scoring position in four innings but could not score.
 
Arizona's four hits were all singles and came from Janelle Meoño, Jasmine Perezchica – who had two – and Hannah Martinez.
