TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona Wildcats catcher Daniel Susac was recently named to the watch list for the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award, the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission announced.

Susac, a semifinalist for the award as a freshman in 2021, makes his first career appearance on the award's watch list. Previously known as the Johnny Bench Award, the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award honors the nation's top Division I collegiate catcher as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors. Previous winners of the award include names such as Adley Rutschman, Garrett Stubbs, Mike Zunino, Jeff Clement, and more.

The watch list will be narrowed down to semifinalists on May 19, 2022, further pared to a list of three finalists on June 7, 2022, and the winner will be announced on June 29, 2022 at the College World Series.

Through the first 17 games of the year Susac has hit .407 (33x81) with 18 runs scored, 11 doubles, one triple, three home runs, and 23 RBI. While serving as the Wildcats everyday catcher he has committed just two errors in 145 chances for a .986 fielding percentage.

His selection to the Buster Posey Award watch list is just the most recent addition to his ever-growing list of honors that includes 2021 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, 2021 Collegiate Baseball National Co-Freshman of the Year, consensus All-America and Freshman All-America selections in 2021, and consensus Preseason All-America selections leading into this season.
