TUCSON, Ariz. — A spectacular outing from
Garrett Irvin and some early offense helped the Arizona Wildcats (17-6, 6-2) even their series against the UCLA Bruins (14-8, 2-3) with a 4-2 victory on Saturday night.
Irvin worked a season-high 7.2 innings and limited the Bruins to just one run on three hits, all of which were singles. The southpaw struck out six and improved to 3-1 on the year. Arizona is now 22-6 in games started by Irvin during his Wildcat career.
Arizona started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning — with the bases loaded center fielder
Mac Bingham put the Wildcats on the board with a two-run single to center field.
Noah Turley, who earned the start at first base, followed with an RBI single to cap the two-out three-run rally.
The Wildcats struck again in the third, with left fielder
Chase Davis smacking a leadoff double to set up an RBI single from designated hitter
Tony Bullard. That was all the runs Arizona needed as they held on for the win.
