TUCSON, Ariz. — Left fielder
Chase Davis blasted a 414-foot walk-off home run deep into the Tucson night to send the Arizona Wildcats (27-12, 12-7) to a 7-6 extra-innings victory over the Arizona State Sun Devils (19-20, 8-8) on Friday night.
Davis' 12th home run of the year came to it's final resting place on top of the Terry Francona Hitting Center on the legendary Wildcats' 63rd birthday.
His 10th inning heroics were set up by a late rally from the Arizona offense. After the sun Devils scored a run in the top of the eighth to go up 6-4, the Wildcats rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to even the score. Davis drew a one-out walk and scored on an RBI triple from
Mac Bingham to cut the deficit to one. Following a pitching change
Tommy Splaine lined the game-tying single back up the middle to plate Bingham.
Arizona starting pitcher
TJ Nichols worked 4.2 innings and allowed three runs while striking out a trio of Sun Devils — he did not factor into the decision.
Right-hander
Trevor Long worked the final two innings for the Wildcats and continued his dominant run with a pair of scoreless innings. He stranded a pair of runners in scoring position in both innings and earned the win to improve to 3-0 on the year.
