TUCSON, Ariz. — A three-run rally in the bottom of the eighth delivered a 7-6 win for the Arizona Wildcats (31-13) over the visiting Nevada Wolf Pack (21-19) on Friday night at Hi Corbett Field.
Second baseman
Garen Caulfield singled with the bases loaded past a drawn-in Nevada third baseman to break a 4-4 tie in the eighth. Three batters later catcher
Daniel Susac provided what would become the winning run on a sacrifice fly to center, scoring
Tyler Casagrande for Arizona's seventh run.
Center fielder
Mac Bingham opened the scoring for Arizona with a two-run home run in the second inning; it was his fourth home run of the year, a career-high.
Starting pitcher
TJ Nichols logged a strong performance for the Cats, working seven innings and allowing just four runs while striking out six. He did not factor into the decision after throwing 101 pitches.
Nevada rallied for two runs in the top of the ninth but were ultimately shut down by
Trevor Long, who earned the win to improve to 5-0 after recording the last out in the eighth inning.
