Cats Sweep Saturday Doubleheader

TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 25 Arizona (31-16) swept Fresno State on Saturday. Four Wildcats homered across both wins with Paige Dimler hitting two home runs.  
 
Game 1 | Arizona 8, Fresno State 4
The Cats won the first game 8-4 against Fresno State (16-32). Carlie Scupin and Paige Dimler hit back-to-back home runs. Sharlize Palacios went 3-for-3 with one RBI. Allie Skaggs, Izzy Pacho, and Dimler had two hits each.
 
Fresno State scored in the first inning on an RBI single, but Pacho answered with an RBI single of her own.
 
Arizona's offense came out swinging in the second, scoring four runs on a trio of RBI singles and an RBI double.
 
The Cats added three more runs in the fourth on Scupin's two-run homer and Dimler's solo shot to make it 8-1.
 
The Bulldogs cut Arizona's lead to four runs in the sixth inning with a pair of home runs. Madi Elish entered in relief for Devyn Netz and kept Fresno State scoreless, retiring six of the eight batters she faced. 
 
Netz (13-5) picked up the win, striking out five Bulldogs in 5.0 IP. 
 
Game 2 | Arizona 5, Fresno State 1
Arizona won the second game 5-1 to sweep Fresno State. Palacios, Pacho, and Dimler each hit home runs. Dimler went a career best 3-for-3 and Palacios had two RBI.
 
The Cats came out of the gates hot, hitting three home runs in the first inning. Palacios hit her 15th homer of the season – a two-run shot – to get the offense going. Pacho and Dimler went back-to-back to give Arizona an early 4-0 lead.
 
Hanah Bowen (10-8) held the Bulldogs scoreless and hitless through four innings to pick up the win. Bowen retired eight straight batters and recorded a career best 11 strikeouts in the circle.
 
In the fifth inning, Fresno State hit a solo home run for their only run of the game. Dimler scored in the sixth inning to make it 5-1.

The Wildcats resume Pac-12 play against California on Friday, May 6 at 3 p.m. MST in Berkeley.
