STREAKONOMICS: Outfielder

Over the course of his 29-game streak, O'Tremba has posted a .331 batting average (39-for-118) and a .432 on-base percentage. In the last 29 games he has logged 10 multi-hit performances and reached base multiple times on 18 occasions. Arizona's longest on-base streak this year belongs to outfielder
Mac Bingham, who earned his way on base in 33 straight games from March 8–May 3. Infielder
Tony Bullard (17 games) also sports and extended on-base streak. Infielder
Garen Caulfield currently rides the team's longest hit streak at seven games. In his last seven games Caulfield has hit .375 (9-for-24) and raised his season batting average from .268 to .282.
PLAYING ONLY THE HITS: Catcher
Daniel Susac and outfielder
Tanner O'Tremba have both been among the most consistent hitters in America this season. Susac's 84 hits lead the conference and rank sixth among all Division I players, while O'Tremba's 78 base knocks are second in the Pac-12 and tied for 22nd in the country. Last weekend against Oregon State, Susac surpassed his career-best mark of 81 hits, set during his historical freshman campaign in 2021. Both Susac (29) and O'Tremba (22) collect hits in bunches, having combined for 51 multi-hit performances this year. Susac has more multi-hit games (29) than he does zero- or one-hit performances (24).
DOUBLE TROUBLE: The Wildcats defense has excelled at twin killings this season, having turned a conference-best 49 doubles plays in 53 games. In addition to leading the Pac-12 (next: Oregon, 47), Arizona's 49 doubles plays are currently tied for the seventh most among all 293 Division I programs. The Cats have averaged 0.92 double plays per game, the sixth-best mark for any Arizona team since 1996 (first: 2009, 1.07). Shortstop
Nik McClaughry has played a large part in the Wildcats double-play prowess and currently leads the Pac-12 with 164 defensive assists this season. McClaughry played a part in 34-of-49 double plays turned by the Arizona defense this year, the third-best individual mark in the Pac-12 and just ahead of teammate and second baseman
Garen Caulfield (32).
END OF AN ERA: From March 18, 2018 – April 30, 2022 the Wildcats scored at least one run in 2016 consecutive games, the second-longest known scoring streak in program history. The streak was snapped on a 2-0 shutout loss to Nevada on April 30; it was Arizona's first shutout loss at home since being blanked by California 4-0 on April 25, 2015. At the time the streak was snapped it was the longest active streak in the Power Five conferences. Over the course of their 216-game scoring streak the Wildcats were held to fewer than three runs just 35 times, while scoring five or more runs 127 times.
DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE: With a healthy roster and everyone playing in their natural positions, the Arizona defense has improved as of late. The Wildcats have strung together two extended errorless streaks in recent weeks, the first a five-game coming April 12–18 and the second a currently active eight-game streak active since May 1. Arizona's current eight-game error-free streak is the longest recorded by the program as far as game-by-game error records exist (since 1998). Outfielder
Tanner O'Tremba has been a steady defensive hand for the Wildcats, starting 49 games in the outfield and posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage on 95 chances. Freshman
Tommy Splaine, who has started 36 games between first base (29 games) and catcher (7 games), has logged a sparkling .993 fielding percentage on 306 chances.
Daniel Susac, Arizona's everyday starting catcher, leads the team with 382 defensive chances this year and has posted a .987 fielding percentage.
EXTRA EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT: Through 53 games, the Arizona offense has combined to swat 186 extra-base hits, the third-best mark in the Pac-12. The Wildcats are currently averaging 3.5 extra-base hits per game, with outfielder
Tanner O'Tremba (30), catcher
Daniel Susac (29), and outfielder
Chase Davis (27) leading the way. Arizona has taken advantage of the large dimensions at Hi Corbett Field since moving there in 2012 — in the decade-plus since the move off campus the Wildcats hold the Pac-12 lead with 1,847 extra-base hits (second: Stanford, 1,700). During that stretch Arizona has paced the conference in doubles six times and triples five times.
BINGHAM NAMED PAC-12 POTW: Arizona outfielder
Mac Bingham was selected as the Pac-12 Player of the Week for May 16, the conference announced on Monday. Bingham helped lead the Wildcats to a series victory over No. 2 Oregon State en route to earning the first Pac-12 weekly honor of his career. This marks Arizona's fourth weekly conference award of the season. Across three games against the second-ranked Beavers, Bingham posted a .429 (6-for-14) batting average with two runs scored, two doubles, one home run, and five RBI. His three-run home run on Sunday afternoon was a major piece of the Wildcats comeback victory that sealed the series win. Bingham logged multiple hits in all three games and drove in runs in the series opener (2 RBI) and finale (3 RBI). He led or tied for the team lead in hits, extra-base hits, RBI, and total bases while ranking second on the squad in batting average and slugging percentage. Defensively, the Wildcats center fielder made all three starts and did not commit an error on nine total chances.
O'TREMBA EARNS ACADEMIC HONORS: Arizona outfielder
Tanner O'Tremba earned a selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-District baseball team last Thursday morning. O'Tremba was one of five outfielders named to the District 8 First Team and is Arizona's first Academic All-District honoree since pitcher Brad Mills in 2007. The Academic All-District teams, as selected by CoSIDA membership, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. O'Tremba, along with all other First Team honorees, will automatically advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. O'Tremba, who graduated from the University of Arizona this morning with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, proudly sported an incredible 4.0 grade point average and was a member of the 2021 Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll.
