SUSAC NAMED GOLDEN SPIKES SEMIFINALST: Sophomore catcher Daniel Susac, the Arizona Wildcats leading hitter and one of the most prolific bats in the nation, has been selected as one of 31 semifinalists for the 44th Golden Spikes Award, USA Baseball announced on Tuesday. The Golden Spikes Award, now in its 44th year, is awarded annually to the nation's top amateur baseball player. Susac is the sixth Arizona player all-time to earn a spot on the Golden Spikes Award semifinalist list. He is one of just three Pac-12 players to earn the semifinalist distinction this year. At the conclusion of the Wildcats 56-game regular season schedule Susac led the team and ranked fourth in the Pac-12 with a .362 batting average, while his 87 hits paced the conference and ranked tied for eighth nationally. Susac ranks among the Top 10 players in the Pac-12 in hits, doubles, RBI, batting average, total bases, and extra-base hits and has nearly matched or surpassed every offensive mark he set during his remarkable National Co-Freshman of the Year campaign in 2021. Susac has recorded a team-best 29 multi-hit outings and 11 multi-RBI performances this season. Defensively, the Wildcats everyday starting catcher has logged a .985 fielding percentage on a team-high 402 chances and thrown out seven attempted base stealers.

O'TREMBA EARNS ACADEMIC HONORS: Arizona outfielder Tanner O'Tremba recently earned a selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-District baseball team. O'Tremba was one of five outfielders named to the District 8 First Team and is Arizona's first Academic All-District honoree since pitcher Brad Mills in 2007. The Academic All-District teams, as selected by CoSIDA membership, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. O'Tremba, along with all other First Team honorees, will automatically advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. O'Tremba, who graduated from the University of Arizona this morning with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, proudly sported an incredible 4.0 grade point average and was a member of the 2021 Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll.
