TUCSON, Ariz. – The record-breaking success of Arizona student-athletes in the classroom continued in the Fall 2022 semester as Arizona Athletics posted its highest ever GPA for a semester with a 3.300 semester GPA. Arizona eclipsed its previous mark for highest semester GPA ever, which was a 3.172 in Spring 2021 and has now eclipsed a 3.00 GPA or above in 10 consecutive semesters.

"We continue to fulfill our Wildcat Way mission to develop student-athletes into academic, athletic and life champions in record-breaking fashion as our student-athletes continue to achieve greatness in the classroom. The unrivaled success in the classroom over the last decade has helped bolster our athletics department's position as a point of pride for the University of Arizona and the state of Arizona. Academics staff who work tirelessly to ensure the academic component of our student-athlete experience remains the gold standard."

Arizona student-athletes pushed their cumulative GPA in the fall to 3.295, which is also an all-time high. The department's previous record for cumulative GPA in a semester was 3.227 in fall of 2021.

Women's Tennis and Men's Cross Country led all programs with a 3.824 and 3.507 semester GPA respectively. The two programs were part of a 16-team group that earned a 3.0 GPA or higher last semester. Other programs breaking records in the classroom last semester include Baseball, Football, Men's Track and Field, Women's Basketball, Soccer and Women's Track & Field.

Fall 2022 also saw 72.7% of student-athletes earn a 3.0 GPA or higher with 47.2% of the student-athlete population earning a 3.50 GPA or higher.

Arizona Athletics' historical rise in academic success saw it post a 3.082 GPA in the spring, which was the second highest spring semester GPA in department history. Fall 2022 saw Arizona break its Fall semester GPA record for an eighth consecutive year. The department also matched its department high in Graduate Success Rate (GSR) with a score of 87 percent in the NCAA's most recent data.
