FLAGSTAFF, ARIZ. – The Wildcats impressed at their first indoor meet of the season, the Lumberjack Team Challenge, on Friday. There were seven Arizona competitors that won their events, but the meet was highlighted by senior Talie Bonds breaking the school record in the 60m hurdles and senior Jordan Geist breaking his own school record in the indoor shot put.
 
FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
In the first event of the day, senior Katie Daily cleared 4.00m (13-1.5) in the pole vault to finish third overall.
 
The Arizona women swept the podium in the high jump, with Alexa Porpaczy winning, Talie Bonds placing second, and Emma Gates placing third. Porpaczy set a new PR after clearing 1.84m (6-0.5). Additionally, in the men's high jump, freshman Kristjan Sigfinnsson finished second overall after clearing 2.09m (6-10.25).
 
A Jordan Geist victory in the men's shot put helped Arizona gain another podium sweep, with Zach Landa placing second and Youssef Koudssi placing third. More importantly though, Geist's winning throw of 21.48m (70-5.75) broke his own indoor shot put school record by 0.03m.
 
Mackenna Orie won the women's shot put with a toss of 15.85m (52-0). Tapenisa Havea finished second overall with a throw of 15.75m (51-8.25), and Lauryn Love also finished fourth overall for the Wildcats. Furthermore, in her first indoor weight throw, Ava David placed second overall with a toss of 17.47m (57-3.75).
 
TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
Talie Bonds started the season off strong by breaking the Arizona indoor school record for the 60m hurdles with a PR time of 8.10 to win the event. She also won her preliminary heat along with Skylar Sieben, who placed third in the final with a time of 8.66. Taylen Wise and Hollan Powers also made the final and finished fourth and seventh.
 
Trayvion White-Austin won the men's 60m dash with a time of 6.70 after also winning his preliminary heat. Freshman James Onanubosi also won his preliminary heat and ended in fifth for the final.
 
Neysia Howard continued the success in the 60m events by winning the women's 60m dash with a time of 7.47. Additionally, Jenica Bosko placed second with a time of 7.59, edging out her former 60m PR by 0.01 seconds. Esther Akinlosotu and Lauryn Ford also made the final where they placed fifth and sixth. After winning the 60m earlier in the day, Howard came back with another victory in the 200m (24.02) later in the meet. Bosko also placed fourth overall for the Wildcats in the 200m.
 
The Wildcats had two finishers in the top three of the women's 600m. Athena Montgomery ran a PR of 1:39.07 to finish second and Kara Mickelson ran a 1:40.75 to finish third.
 
Lyricc Lopez won the men's 600m with a time of 1:19.11. He was followed by his Wildcat teammates Logan Hasher, who placed second with a PR time of 1:19.69, Isaac Davis, who placed fourth, and Evan Simmons, who placed fifth. Cade Russo also posted a 600m PR time of 1:22.35. Additionally, Carl Hicks finished fourth overall in the 400m and Brayden Hasher finished fifth. In the 800m, Cooper Quigley also placed third overall with a time of 1:56.23.
 
UP NEXT
The Wildcats will be sending student-athletes to two meets next week: the Texas Tech Open Multi's and the UW Invitational. The former will be in Lubbock, Texas, from Thursday, Jan. 26, to Saturday, Jan. 28, and the latter will be in Seattle, Wash., from Friday, Jan. 27, to Saturday, Jan. 28.
