LUBBOCK, Texas – Both the Texas Tech Open Multi's and the UW Invitational gave ample opportunities to the Wildcat track and field team on Friday, which they took advantage of by setting twelve new personal bests. The majority of the action was in Lubbock, which was once again highlighted by
Talie Bonds breaking her own school record in the 60m hurdles that she set last week.
TEXAS TECH FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
Jordan Geist posted a new personal best in the men's weight throw with a toss of 22.24m (72-11.75) to finish first overall, as he continues to dominate this season. Additionally,
Zach Landa had a huge PR throw of 18.90m (62-0.25) to help him finish fourth in his event group.
Freshman
Sir Jonathan Sims' jump of 7.13m (23-4.75) helped him make the men's long jump final for his event group. Additionally,
Razeen Khaldun set a new personal best in the indoor long jump with a bound of 6.77m (22-2.5). In the later group,
Reinaldo Rodrigues also made his final with a jump of 7.20m (23-7.5).
Ava David and
Mackenna Orie both set new personal records in the women's weight throw. David had a toss of 17.71m (58-1.25) to finish sixth, and Orie had a throw of 15.32m (50-3.25).
In her first collegiate long jump, freshman
Taylen Wise finished third in her group and ninth overall, with a leap of 5.99m (19-8).
Rylee Perkins also had a PR indoor jump of 5.53m (18-1.75). Furthermore, freshmen
Malaya Abueg set a new PR in the pole vault after clearing 3.58m (11-9).
TEXAS TECH TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
In the first running event of the day,
Talie Bonds won her qualifying heat of the 60m hurdles, while also running the fastest qualifying time of 8.17. Bonds followed that up by winning her next qualifying heat, lowering her time to 8.13, and entering the final as the fastest seeded hurdler. To cap the night off, she ran an 8.08 in the final, breaking the school record she set last week at the Lumberjack Team Challenge. She was barely edged out of first place by 0.01 seconds, and finished second overall.
Neysia Howard won her qualifying heat in the 60m with a time of 7.52. Additionally,
Presley Money lowered her personal best in the 60m with a time of 7.89.
The 600m saw a flurry of personal bests. In the women's race,
Athena Montgomery crushed her PR, running a 1:35.86 to place sixth. Then, all three Arizona competitors in the men's race ran in the same heat, and all three of them also lowered their personal records.
Lyricc Lopez (placed seventh overall) ran a 1:19.03,
Logan Hasher (placed eighth overall) ran a 1:19.58, and
Evan Simmons ran a 1:21.21.
UW TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
With the bulk of the Arizona competitors running tomorrow in Seattle,
Brigid Hanley was the lone Wildcat who raced today. In her first indoor competition ever, she clocked a 16:46.51 in the women's 5k to finish 10th.
The Wildcats will finish up their busy weekend with the conclusion of both meets tomorrow. The Texas Tech Open Multi's will begin at 9:00 a.m. MST with the women's shot put, and the UW Invitational will start with the women's 3k at 10:00 a.m. MST. Live results for Texas Tech can be found
