TUCSON, Ariz. -- C.A.T.S. Student-Athlete Development hosted a Career Night last month with over 25 different employers and career resources. The annual event's goals were to connect student-athletes with alumni, community members, and current professionals that offer micro-internships, internships, job shadows, or are willing to be mentors. The new C.A.T.S. initiative emphasized expanding opportunities, relationship-building, and empowering students to make progress in achieving their post-graduation goals.
"I thought this was a great experience to connect with employers, and it helped me develop a pitch for myself and gain confidence that employers will see the value I can bring to their business," said Diego Marquez from Arizona Track & Field.
Other students who attended shared that the event increased their confidence in preparing for my life post-graduation and helped them feel connected to the University of Arizona community.
"I was originally nervous for this event, but as I got to talking to more people, I learned to really enjoy the opportunity and build connections that will be helpful for me in the future," said Arizona Swimming & Diving student-athlete Quinn Gariepy-Regan.

During the program, students were able to navigate the space in the Dunlap Club of Arizona Stadium where employers and guests set up information tables to share resources and information. Some of the employers in attendance included Enterprise Holdings, Walmart, AmeriCorps, Altius Sports Partners, Arizona Bowl, International Rescue Committee, Tucson Police Department, Pima County, Vanguard, TEP, and StrechLab. There was also campus representative from
Student Engagement and Career Development,
The Graduate Center, Arizona Athletics,
FORGE, and more.
"We were super excited to bring back the career night this year, and a variety of employers in attendance speaks to the variety of interests of our current students," said Assistant A.D. for C.A.T.S. Student-Athlete Development Sofia Read. "Some of the guests were also UArizona alumni and letterwinners, which was a huge benefit. We're excited to continue to provide meaningful career opportunities to student-athletes that helps connect them with potential work options and answers some of the questions they have about the future."
C.A.T.S. Student-Athlete Development's mission is to implement programs, events and individualized support that empower student-athletes to develop as leaders, community members, and future professionals. Career Night is one of the many new and improved programs that the department is initiating this year to support student-athletes' career development at each stage of their college career.
