SEATTLE, Wash. –Arizona Track and Field travels back to Seattle and Dempsey Indoor for the Ken Shannon Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
"Most coaches and athletes are conditioned to fear the last opportunities to have success," said Head Coach
Fred Harvey. "I've always trained and conditioned my athletes to embrace the last opportunity. Academic finals are last opportunities, making the finals of the Olympics Games are last opportunities, and we need to learn to embrace them if we are going to have success in life! The Ken Shannon Invitational is the final opportunity for some to make it to the Indoor NCAA Championships."
As of now, the meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. MST on Friday with the women's pole vault and men's heptathlon 60m. Running events will begin at 5:30 p.m. MST with the women's 60m hurdles. On Saturday, the field events will get started at 11:00 a.m. MST with the women's high jump and women's shot put. The women's 60m dash will kick off the running events at 12:00 p.m. MST. Results for all events from both days can be found
here.
Arizona had three student-athletes competing last week, and all three had exceptional performances.
Jordan Geist finished runner-up in the men's shot put at the USATF Indoor Championships with a throw of 21.36m (70-1) that just narrowly missed the 21.48m school-record he set earlier in the year. Additionally,
Youssef Koudssi and
Zach Landa finished first and second in the men's shot put at the NAU Tune Up.
Two weeks ago, at the Don Kirby Invitational, the Wildcats set two new school records and 21 new personal bests.
Talie Bonds broke the women's 60m hurdles school record for the third time this season, running an 8.01. Furthermore,
Trayvion White-Austin set an Arizona school record in the men's 200m with a time of 20.97. The Wildcats also had two top-three finishers in the women's high jump:
Alexa Porpaczy and
Emma Gates. Additionally, the men's 4x400m team of
Carl Hicks,
Isaac Davis,
Logan Hasher, and
Lyricc Lopez, won the event and clocked a time that was just 0.08 seconds off the school record.
Â
This is the team's last meet before the NCAA Indoor Championships, so it will be the last opportunity to qualify for the competition. Since there is no indoor championship for the Pac-12, a majority of the teams from the conference will compete in Seattle, making it a deep and very competitive event.
A meet recap will be posted to ArizonaWildcats.com detailing the competition results. Live updates will also be posted to @ArizonaTrack on Twitter.
