TUCSON, Ariz. – The national recognition for Arizona forward
Azuolas Tubelis continued to roll in on Thursday. The Pac-12 leader in scoring and rebounding landed on the Naismith Trophy Player of the Year Midseason Watch List and is one of 10 players on the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award Watch List that was released.
The Lithuanian big man is averaging 20.8 points and 9.5 rebounds while shooting 57.3% from the floor this season. His numbers increase to 21.8 points and 10.2 rebounds in Pac-12 play. He leads the conference with 10 double-doubles and has five games of 20 points, 10 rebounds.
He scored 40 points against Oregon on Feb. 2, going 16 of 21 from the floor and did not make a 3-pointer, becoming the first Pac-12 player to score 40 without a 3-pointer since Leon Powe (CAL) in 2006. For his efforts, he was named Pac-12 Player of the Week for the second time this season and garnered National Player of the Week honors from the Naismith Trophy, USBWA, ESPN.com, Field of 68 and NCAA.com
