TUCSON, Ariz. — Impressive performances from
Tyler Casagrande and
Chris Barraza helped seal an eighth consecutive victory for the Arizona Wildcats (11-3, 2-0), who took down the California Golden Bears (8-5, 0-2) on Saturday afternoon.
Arizona's 7-5 victory on a sunny day at Hi Corbett Field secured the series win in the Wildcats first weekend of Pac-12 play.
Casagrande finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored, a triple, and three RBI. His two-run triple in the 4th tied the game, while his RBI single in the eighth provided a crucial insurance run for the Cats.
The Wildcats bullpen trio of
Casey Hintz,
Chris Barraza, and
Trevor Long was dominant in the win. Barraza (1-0) struck out five over just two innings of work to earn the win, while Long slammed the door shut in the ninth to earn his fourth save of the year.
Starting pitcher
Bradon Zastrow did not factor into the decision after tossing four innings; he struck out three and surrendered just four hits.
