TUCSON, Ariz. - #57 Arizona swept both #35 Illinois and NMSU 4-0 in their doubleheader on Tuesday, March 14 at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
#35 Illinois
Up first was a morning rematch against Illinois where the doubles point was up for grabs on court three after
Kayla Wilkins and
Parker Fry finish first on court two with a 6-0 win followed by a loss on court one.
Reece Carter and
Lauren Friedman fell 2-6 to Kate Duong and Megan Heuser before
Belen Nevenhoven and Midori Castillo clinched the first doubles point of the day.
In singles, senior
Lexi Ryngler started the 'Cats off strong, defeating Kasia Treiber in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Freshman Carter kept the Wildcats thriving under the sun with a 7-6(5), 6-3 victory against #100 Ashley Yeah at two singles, making it her second victory against Yeah. After a lengthy rally on court four, Wilkins clinched the rematch for Arizona defeating her opponent 6-3 in straight sets. The Wildcats got their revenge after falling 3-4 to the Fighting Illini in the final round of the Blue Gray Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala. on Feb. 25.
NM State
Arizona took the second doubles point of the day after Carter and
Salma Ziouti clinched 6-4 against Anna Pinaieva and Dora Kurdi at one doubles. Castillo and Nevenhoven put the Wildcats at an advantage when they finished first at three doubles vs. Valeriia Ivanovskaia and Natsuki Nishimura (6-3).
The 'Cats won three straight set singles matches to clinch the victory against the Aggies, maintaining their perfect series lead (11-0). Winning her second singles match of the doubleheader, Wilkins defeated Ivanovskaia 6-1, 6-0 at three singles. Castillo finished right after on four, sweeping Nishimura 6-0 in both sets. Then Fry finalized the ninth success at home with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Bella Nguyen.

After finishing their last two non-conference matches, Women's Tennis continues Pac-12 play this Friday, March 17 against Washington State at 1:30 p.m. MT in Pullman, Wash., followed by an 11 a.m. MT match on Sunday, March 19 vs. #21 Washington in Seattle, Wash.
