No. 24 Cats Fall, 8-0, to No. 2 UCLA

TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 24 Arizona (24-16 (3-10 Pac-12)) lost the series opener to No. 2 UCLA, 8-0, on Friday night.
 
Dakota Kennedy led Arizona with two hits in the leadoff spot – her first time hitting leadoff this season.  Arizona had seven hits in the game but couldn't push a run across and left 10 runners on base.
 
Both teams went down in order in the first inning, but UCLA scored in the second on a three-run home run. The Bruins hit a two-run home run in the third inning to extend their lead to 5-0.  
 
A solo home run in the fifth gave UCLA a 6-0 lead. In the seventh, the Bruins took an 8-0 lead on a two-RBI single.
 
In the bottom of the seventh, the Cats pieced together a pair of singles and a hit by pitch to load the bases but couldn't capitalize.
 
Freshman Aissa Silva (2-2) started in the circle for Arizona and went 2.0 innings to pick up the loss. She struck out one and allowed five runs. Ali Blanchard entered in relief in the third inning, allowing three runs to score in 4.1 IP. Sydney Somerndike faced two batters in the seventh, retiring both Bruins.

The Cats will look to even the series against UCLA on Saturday, April 15 at 1 p.m. MST on Pac-12 Oregon.
