TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (20-15, 7-12) used a six-run bottom of the sixth to rally past the Utah Utes (14-22-1, 4-14-1) for a 14-9 series-opening win on Friday night at Hi Corbett Field.
The Wildcats offense notched double digit hits for the 11th straight game and drew five walks to fuel the 14-run outburst. Center fielder
Mac Bingham, designated hitter
Garen Caulfield, and second baseman
Mason White all collected three hits to lead the way.
Third baseman
Tony Bullard started Arizona's sixth-inning rally with a two run home run that sailed nearly 500 feet over the left field wall. First baseman
Kiko Romero evened the game with an RBI fielder's choice and was followed by an RBI groundout from catcher
Tommy Splaine that gave the Cats a lead they wouldn't surrender.
Arizona starting pitcher
Jackson Kent did not factor into the decision. Left-handed reliver
Eric Orloff (2-0), the second man out of the Wildcats bullpen, earned the win.
