Cats Begin Pac-12 Championship Quest

STANFORD, Calif. – No. 18 Arizona Men's Golf starts their postseason run with a Friday morning tee time at Stanford Golf Course for the opening day of the 2023 Pac-12 Men's Golf Championships. The Wildcats are coming off a runner-up finish at the Thunderbird Collegiate in Phoenix two weeks ago, which was the team's fifth finish of first or second place this season.

"I am very excited to see our guys compete this weekend on the heels of some of our best golf of the year," said head coach Jim Anderson. "In addition to our team playing great golf in Phoenix, we also recorded some great rounds at the Western Intercollegiate in nearby Santa Cruz, which will be a similar golf environment as Stanford. We've played a challenging schedule with good results in preparation for this time of the season, and now it's time for us to go out there and post the scores we know we can."

Arizona last played the Stanford Golf Course in March of 2019 that marked the last time the program played in The Goodwin Tournament, hosted by Stanford. The Cats played in the annual Western Intercollegiate, in nearby Santa Cruz, nearly three weeks ago. This year's conference championships return to the Bay Area for the first time since 2021, which saw Arizona win the title at Mayacama Golf Club approximately 90 miles north of Stanford.

The scoring format for the Pac-12 Championships counts the five best scores from a lineup of six golfers, which mirrors the Western Intercollegiate. Arizona will feature a lineup this weekend of Chase Sienkiewicz, Chaz Aurilia, Sam Sommerhauser, Tiger Christensen, Zach Pollo and Filip Jakubcik. The six Wildcats have combined to tally 11 top-10 finishes with Pollo winning the Arizona NIT as well as Sienkiewicz and Sommerhauser posting runner-up finishes.

Beginning on Friday, the teams will play 72 holes in three days at Stanford Golf Course. The venue will play as a par-70 at a length of 6,727 yards.
