Davis Tabbed to Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List

TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona outfielder Chase Davis has earned a spot on the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, USA Baseball announced on Wednesday afternoon.

The Golden Spikes Award, which is presented annually to the nation's top amateur baseball player, is given to the athlete who best exhibits exceptional on-field ability and exemplary sportsmanship.

Davis, a junior, advanced to the Midseason Watch List after debuting on the Preseason Watch List in February and producing outstanding play on the field in the weeks since. He is the ninth Wildcat to earn a spot on the Midseason Watch List since its introduction to the award process in 2012. Arizona's nine midseason honorees are tied for sixth most among all programs nationally.

Just under halfway through the Wildcats regular season schedule, Davis is hitting .316 with 32 runs scored, five doubles, a team-leading 11 home runs, 29 RBI, a .704 slugging percentage, and a .427 on-base percentage. Davis' 11 home runs this year pace the program and rank second in the Pac-12 Conference. He now has 29 career home runs, putting him just two shy of breaking into the Arizona career Top 10.

His prowess extends to defense as well, where he has already logged a pair of outfield assists as Arizona's everyday starting left fielder.

Previous winners of the Golden Spikes Award include the likes of Kris Bryant (2013), Bryce Harper (2010), Stephen Strasburg (2009), Buster Posey (2008), Tim Lincecum (2006), former Wildcat Terry Francona (1980), and many more.
