STANFORD, Calif.. — The Arizona Wildcats (26-21, 9-16) showed tremendous fight and rallied from down five runs but ultimately fell, 9-8, on a walk-off by the No. 4 Stanford Cardinal (33-13, 19-6) on Friday night.
Arizona rallied for three runs in the top of the eighth inning to tie the game at 8-8, capped by a straight steal of home from shortstop
Nik McClaughry, his second of the season.Â
Two innings prior, it was McClaughry who started the rally with a two-run single in the top of the sixth. He finished the night with three hits and a walk.
Starting pitcher
Cam Walty did not factor into the decision after working five innings for the Wildcats. Right-handed relievers
Derek Drees and
Dawson Netz both posted scoreless innings of relief to hold the Cardinal at bay as the Wildcats offense went to work on their comeback effort.
