TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (28-22, 10-17) and USC Trojans (32-20-1, 16-11) meet for a three-game series this weekend at Hi Corbett Field to complete the 2023 regular season.

Game one on Friday will be available to view via Arizona Live Stream-3. Game two Friday and the Saturday series finale will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks. All three games will be broadcast live on Wildcats Radio 1290 AM.

Arizona enters the weekend riding a two-game win streak and looking to secure their spot in the 2023 Pac-12 Tournament.

STREAKONOMICS: Outfielder Chase Davis strung together a 59-game on-base streak between May 8, 2022 and May 10, 2023 that tied the Arizona program record also previously accomplished by Cole Frenzel (2010-11) and Todd Trafton (1984-85) His streak ended with an 0-for-5 outing at No. 4 Stanford on May 12. His 45-game on-base streak this year was the second-longest posted by a Wildcat during the StatCrew era (1998-current). The longest active on-base streak on the team currently belongs to catcher Cameron LaLiberte, who has safely reached base in 18 straight games. Nobody on the team currently sports a hit streak longer than three games. Freshman infielder Mason White saw his 17-game hit streak end on Tuesday, May 2 at Grand Canyon, the longest streak by a Wildcat this season.

McCLAUGHRY NAMED BROOKS WALLACE SEMIFINALIST: Arizona Baseball senior shortstop Nik McClaughry has been selected as a semifinalist for the 2023 Brooks Wallace Award, the College Baseball Foundation announced this week. The award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented this summer by the College Baseball Foundation. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, a slick-fielding shortstop who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27. McClaughry earned his way onto the list with another season of elite defense and strong offensive performance. Through 49 games this year the California native is hitting .330 with 62 runs scored, 18 extra-base hits, 31 RBI, and a .441 on-base percentage. Defensively, the Wildcats field captain has posted a sparkling .981 fielding percentage with a conference-leading 148 defensive assists and only four errors coming on 213 total chances. A wizard on defense, McClaughry has provided numerous highlight reel plays up the middle of the Arizona infield. He has contributed to 20 of the Wildcats 35 double plays turned this season and has been even better when the games mattered most, posting a .983 fielding percentage in 27 Pac-12 starts.

FIVE ON CSC ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM: Five Arizona Baseball academic and athletic standouts earned selection to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team, the organization announced on Tuesday. Outfielder Mac Bingham, along with right-handed pitchers Dawson Netz, Trevor Long, TJ Nichols, and Anthony Susac, all earned the honors.

CRUSH DAVIS: Outfielder Chase Davis has proven himself to be a prolific power hitter during his collegiate career. After swatting 18 during his sophomore campaign, he has followed up with 17 so far this year to give him 35 career long balls. Davis enters the weekend tied for fourth place on the Wildcats career leaderboard. His 18 home runs last year led the team, ranked third in the Pac-12, and were tied for the sixth most in a single season in program history. His 17 home runs this year are currently tied for the conference lead and Top 50 nationally.

ALFA ROMERO: First baseman Kiko Romero has put together one of the most prolific run-producing seasons in Arizona history. His 75 RBI entering the weekend lead the Pac-12 by 15 and are the sixth most among all Division I players. Additionally, his rate of 1.50 RBI per game is tied for the sixth best mark in Division I. Romero is currently on pace to finish the regular season with 80 RBI, which would be tied for sixth most in program history. The junior leads the team with 20 multi-RBI performances across 50 games this season, the most since Jacob Berry recorded 21 in 63 games in 2021.

HOME SWEET HOME: Since Arizona Baseball moved to Hi Corbett Field for the 2012 season, the Wildcats have enjoyed a tremendous home field advantage. Over those 11+ seasons, Arizona has posted a record of 270-113, winning games at a .705 clip. Their home winning percentage over that stretch is the second best mark in the conference.

FREE MASON: Freshman infielder Mason White has continued the Wildcats recent trend of strong first-year collegiate performances. The Tucson native is currently one double shy of tying the Arizona Pac-12 freshman record of 12 set by Daniel Susac in 2021 and four extra-base hits behind Susac's mark of 21. Susac also set the Wildcats Pac-12 freshman slugging percentage record at .667, while White is currently slugging .693 in conference contests.

LIVE BY THE LONG BALL: The Arizona lineup has slugged home runs at a historic rate this season, having crushed 75 homers in 50 games so far. Their production has been wide spread too, with five Wildcats — Chase Davis (17), Kiko Romero (15), Mac Bingham (9), Tony Bullard (8), and Emilio Corona (8) — have swatted eight or more home runs this season. This marks the first time an Arizona lineup has has five players with 8+ HR since the 1993 team had six: George Arias (23), Jason Thompson (20), Todd Landry (17), Willie Morales (13), Robbie Moen (10), John Tejeck (8), and Richard Lemons (8).
