TUCSON, Ariz. -- University of Arizona Track and Field garnered 13Â All-American Honors from the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas.
Jordan Geist capped off an incredible Wildcat career with a National Title in the Shot Put to earn a First-Team All-American Honor and secured a second First-Team All-American Honor with a third-place finish in the Hammer Throw (75.97m, 249-3). His victory marks the first time a Wildcat has won a National Title in the Shot Put. Before this, Geist's best finish in the event at the NCAA Championships was third.
Geist won the National Championship on his sixth and final attempt of the competition, posting a mark of 21.06m (69-1.25). That throw pushed him ahead of Arizona State's Turner Washington, who is also a former Wildcat, by just 0.02m. Geist knew as soon as he released his throw that he had come through in the clutch to deliver the Wildcats and himself a National Title.
While it is his first career outdoor National Championship, Geist won the shot put at the NCAA Indoor Championships during the indoor season, meaning he swept the event in both the indoor and outdoor seasons this year. He is the first Wildcat to win an outdoor championship since Lawi Lalang won the 5000m in 2014.
Talie Bonds finished her Wildcat career with a fourth-place finish in the 100m Hurdles to earn a First-Team All-American Honor. Bonds clocked a time of 12.71 (+3.8) to propel her to a top-four placing. She entered the competition ranked fifth in the nation. Additionally, her fourth-place finish is the best for an Arizona woman in the event since 2011.
Youssef Koudssi placed 11th overall in the Discus with a new personal best throw of 59.73m (195-11) to earn Second-Team All-American Honors.Â
