FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Arizona Wildcats (33-25) slugged three home runs but ultimately fell on a final score of 12-4 to the TCU Horned Frogs (38-22) in both teams opening game of the NCAA Fayetteville Regional.
First baseman
Kiko Romero crushed a pair of home runs, one in the first inning and another in the eighth, to break the Arizona single-season RBI record.
Freshman second baseman
Mason White also went yard, smacking a solo shot in the fourth inning for his ninth home run of the season.
Left-handers
Jackson Kent and
Eric Orloff, along with right-hander
Dawson Netz, contributed quality relief efforts to the Wildcats cause. The trio combined to hold the Horned Frogs without an earned run across five innings of work while striking out three.
With the loss, Arizona drops into the loser's bracket of the double elimination Fayetteville Regional where they will take on Santa Clara on Saturday afternoon.
