TUCSON, Ariz. — Third-generation Arizona Wildcat and standout infielder
Mason White earned a spot on the
Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America roster, the outlet announced today.
His selection marks the first
Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American from Arizona since
Daniel Susac and Jacob Berry both earned the distinction in 2021. White is also the first Wildcat infielder to earn the recognition since third baseman Nick Quintana in 2017.
White, a Tucson native, just completed a freshman campaign in which he hit .313 with 50 runs scored, 18 doubles, a team-leading seven triples, 10 home runs, and 35 RBI. His performance was most impressive when the stakes were highest, hitting .356 with 23 runs, 18 extra-base hits, and 19 RBI during Pac-12 Conference play. White's 12 doubles in league play tied the Arizona freshman conference record set by Susac in 2021.
Across 53 games and 48 starts White posted 17 multi-hit games and seven multi-RBI performances. From March 31 – May 2 he posted a 17-game hit streak that went on to become the longest by a Wildcat hitter last season; over the course of the streak he hit .414 with 10 multi-hit efforts, 23 runs, and 14 extra-base hits.
Defensively, White started 31 games at second base, 11 at third base, and one at shortstop and ultimately tallied 193 defensive chances while helping to turn 23 of Arizona's 46 double plays.
White's father, Ben (1993-96), and grandfather, Tim (1968), both also played baseball at Arizona.
