John Court Signs Contract Extension Through 2026

TUCSON, Ariz. — University of Arizona Vice President and Director of Athletics Dave Heeke announced that Arizona Gymnastics head coach John Court has agreed to a three-year contract extension that will see him lead the GymCats through the 2026 season.

Court, who is currently in his sixth season managing Arizona Gymnastics, has been with the program for 26 years. In his two-plus decades in Tucson, coach Court's overall body or work includes developing multiple All-Americans, helping the GymCats reach their 35th NCAA Regional, overseeing unprecedented success in the classroom, and much more.

"John continues to be an integral part of the success of Arizona Gymnastics as head coach following two decades as an assistant," Vice President and Director of Athletics Dave Heeke said. "He is an integral part of our department's successful group of head coaches. John has coached and mentored outstanding young women who embody the Wildcat Way and develop into academic, athletic and life champions. His guidance has grown our program's role as a point of pride for the University of Arizona and the Tucson community. As we look to the future, John's leadership and dedication as head coach will position the program to achieve a championship level of excellence."

In his five years as head coach, the GymCats have made four NCAA Regionals appearances and two individual GymCats have qualified for NCAA Championships. In the 2023 season, Court led the program to a final NQS rank of No. 21, the program's highest final ranking since 2016. In addition, Court coached the program to its first-ever win over Utah in the 2022 season.

"Coaching at the University of Arizona is a tremendous honor and privilege," Court said. "I would like to thank Dave Heeke and our sport administrator Krystal Swindlehurst for supporting and believing in me as a person and coach to guide the program. Our program has made great strides the last few seasons and the quality of people on our staff and in our program will push us to new heights and make the future exciting."

Prior to his promotion to head coach in 2018, Court spent 19 seasons at Arizona as an assistant coach specializing in vault and floor exercise. His efforts in the gym and on the recruiting trail, where he served as the GymCats recruiting coordinator, led to perennial NCAA Regional appearances and a trip to the 2002 NCAA Championships.

His time as an assistant was highlighted by a pair of South Central Regional Assistant Coach of the Year honors in both 2007 and 2012.

In addition to coaching 2019 All-American Christina Berg and 2022 All-American Sirena Linton, coach Court oversaw the development of six All-Americans during his time in an assistant role. Ring of Honor inductee and 2001 AAI American Award recipient Heidi Hornbeek, all-time program leading scorer Monica Bisordi, and 2008 Pac-10 Scholar-Athlete of the Year Kristen Klarenbach are just a few of the All-Americans who have graced the McKale Center under coach Court's leadership.
