TUCSON - Arizona soccer got its first home win of the season on Sunday, defeating Utah State 1-0 in Mulcahy Stadium. Arizona improves to 3-1-3 on the year while the Aggies fall to 2-5-1.
It was Nicole Dallin who scored a goal for the sixth time in the 2023 season, recording the game winner in the 77th minute. Laissa Mbiene sent a free kick into the box that Utah State headed right to Dallin. The Menifee, Calif., native took around multiple Aggies defenders before launching the ball and sending it sailing over the head of Utah State keeper Deira Walton.
Utah State took the first shot of the match, but Hope Hisey was there to make her 307th career save. With the save, the graduate student took sole possession of second place for the most career saves in program history. She ended the day with five saves to bring her career total to 311.
Savannah Holley took a couple of shots in the initial 15 minutes of play, but neither was able to make it into the goal.
Cameron Valladares, Brooke Ahern and Jordan Hall were the other Wildcats with a shot in the first half. Ahern's was the only on-target shot of the half for Arizona, and it was saved by Utah State's Walton to keep the score knotted at 0-0.
In the second half, Megan Chelf and Valladares each took a shot in the initial five minutes. Nine Wildcats ended up taking shots in the match with Dallin, Holley, Valladares and Jordan Hall with two apiece.
Arizona returns to action Saturday, Sept. 16 at 3:00 p.m. MST as the team makes the trip to Gonzaga.
